چکیده

Despite the growing importance of oxygen-delivery devices worldwide, there are only a few reports physiological data on various oxygen masks in children. The possibility carbon dioxide (CO2) rebreathing has been prevalent concern with use devices. OxyMask KidTM (Southmedic Inc. Canada; hereafter OxyMask) is expected to reduce CO2 even at low flow rates because its structural features. Biological using children have not well investigated. Measured respiratory parameters those simple mask healthy were compared. Ten subjects enrolled, median age 5.4 years. All used both and mask. fraction inspiratory (FIO2), partial pressure (PICO2), end-tidal measured sidestream gas-sampling monitor all subjects. rate was set 1, 3, 5, 10 L/min. FIO2 levels higher than 3 L/min oxygen. PICO2 significantly lower (1.5 mmHg vs. 3.7 1 L/min, P = 0.005; 1.0 2.7 0.005, respectively), whereas masks. Conclusion: Our results showed that less achieved

Carbon dioxide rebreathing with the anaesthetic conserving device, AnaConDa®.

BACKGROUND The anaesthetic conserving device (ACD) AnaConDa(®) was developed to allow the reduced use of inhaled agents by conserving exhaled agent and allowing rebreathing. Elevated has been observed in patients when using this ACD, despite tidal volume compensation for the larger apparatus dead space. The aim of the present study was to determine whether CO(2), like inhaled anaesthetics, adso...

Ventilatory responses to rebreathing and carbon dioxide inhalation during anaesthesia in children.

In 12 spontaneously breathing intubated children (9.3-25 kg), ventilatory responses to rebreathing and to the inhalation of carbon dioxide (CO2) were investigated during halothane anaesthesia for minor surgical procedures. A T-piece (Mapleson F system) was used, modified by the insertion of a pneumotachograph and a paediatric airway adaptor of an in-line capnograph in the patient limb. Exhaled ...

Evaluation of carbon dioxide rebreathing during exercise assisted by noninvasive ventilation with plateau exhalation valve

Noninvasive ventilation with a plateau exhalation valve (PEV) is often used as an adjunct to exercise to achieve a physiologic training effect in severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. However, during exercise, with the increase of exhalation flow and respiratory rate and limited capability of PEV to exhale gases out of the circuit, it is still unknown whether CO2 rebreat...

Respiratory effort perception at rest and during carbon dioxide rebreathing in patients with dystrophia myotonica.

BACKGROUND Breathlessness appears to be closely related to the perception of the outgoing motor command to breathe and should be increased in the presence of muscle weakness. However, breathlessness is not a common symptom in patients with chronic muscle disease who have weak respiratory muscles. The factors that determine the perception of respiratory effort in such patients have not been exam...

[Determining cardiac output by carbon dioxide rebreathing in patients with sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome].

The objective of the present study was to determine the relation between resting cardiac output in patients with sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome but without arterial hypertension or heart failure as measured indirectly by the carbon dioxide rebreathing method and left ventricular function evaluated by transthoracic echocardiography. We also compared the variability and reproducibility of the meas...
